The Best Time to Visit Pattaya

Best Time to Visit Pattaya

When is the Best Time to Visit Pattaya ?

The most popular time to go to Pattaya is from November to April when there is little rain and lots of sunshine. However, the climate is warm all year round and although the risk of rain is much higher during the low season there are still plenty of sunny days so the “rainy” months are still well worth considering when planning a trip.

The best time for you to go will depend on your priorities. If you want nice weather and don’t mind paying premium prices then visiting during the high season months would probably be the best choice. On the other hand, if you are prepared to take a chance on the weather in favour of making big savings on items such as flights and accommodation you may want to head there during the low season.

Below is a month-by-month summary of average weather conditions along with some plus and minus comments to help you decide which time of year may suit you.

Its all good natured and can be a lot of fun for those who enter into the spirit of things. However, some people actively avoid being in Thailand at this time of year as it can be a real obstacle if you plan to spend your time in other ways.

Visitor numbers are high as many overseas visitors come to join the celebrations though they drop off quickly when they’ve finished.

The Good :

  • Generally sunny, hot weather.
The Not So Good :
  • Songkran celebrations if you don’t want to join in.

There can be some nice weather in May but overall it is one of the wettest months of the year and marks the beginning of the rainy season.

The Good :
  • Not crowded, less traffic congestion
  • Cheaper flights and accommodation

  • Often heavily discounted flights and accommodation

September Weather Statistics
Av. Temperature High 31° C.
Av. Temperature Low 25.1° C.
Av. Relative Humidity 77 %
Av. Rainfall 21.7 cm
Av. Rainfall Days 17.1

Along with October and May, September is usually one of the wettest months with a high probability of thunderstorms throughout. However, this does not mean that there won’t be any good weather as the sun can shine at any time of year and there’s a better chance of it happening in Pattaya than most other places in Thailand.

Tourist numbers are usually at their lowest but because of this you can also expect the biggest discounts on accommodation and flights. If your main aim is to enjoy the nightlife rather than lie on the beach then the savings that you can make might make this a good month to choose.

Even if it rains its still hot in Pattaya and tropical rainstorms can be quite a spectacle in themselves as long as you are safe and under cover!

The Good :
  • Cheapest time of year to visit (see also Oct.)
  • No crowds, more relaxed nightlife ambience
  • Sunshine still possible
The Not So Good :
  • High probability of lots of rainy days
  • Can feel hot and humid
Lowest Prices of the Year : September is usually one of the wettest months but getting luxury accommodation for a 3 star price might help make up for it. View a list of Pattaya's top hotels to see what's available.

The Good :
  • Cheapest time of year to visit (See also Sept.)
  • Sunshine still possible
  • No crowds
The Not So Good :
  • High probability of lots of rainy days
  • Highest humidity

Christmas is celebrated much as it is in western countries with decorations throughout the town and a Christmas party atmosphere around the nightlife area and malls.

New Year’s Eve is probably the year’s biggest celebration usually climaxing with a huge fireworks display above Pattaya Beach at midnight.

The Good :
  • Weather mostly sunny
  • Nighlife in full swing
  • New Year’s and Christmas festivities
The Not So Good :
  • Traffic congestion
  • Accommodation prices at a premium
December is a high season month that attracts large numbers of tourists but there are still quiet parts of Pattaya where you can escape the crowds. Read the where to stay in Pattaya guide to learn where they are.

Pattaya's Climate

Thailand's NE and SW Monsoons

Thailand’s weather is controlled by monsoon wind changes that create two basic seasons : dry and wet.

From November to April the northeast monsoon coming off the asian continent brings drier cooler weather. “Cool” in Pattaya means daily highs of around 31 degrees but, without the higher humidity experienced at other times of year, it feels a lot more comfortable.

In May the prevailing monsoon direction changes and blows from the southwest bringing higher moisture-laden air from the ocean. This heralds the start of the rainy season which lasts until November. Throughout this period tropical downpours and thunderstorms can be common though there are still plenty of sunny spells in between.

Its worth noting that Pattaya experiences much less rainfall during the wet season than most other major Thailand resorts (see comparison chart).
